Defending the Sanctity of Human Life

Dec 1, 2011

“Defending the Sanctity of Human Life.” in Successful Marriage and Families: Proclamation Principles and Research Perspectives.  Ed. Alan J. Hawkins, David C. Dollahite, and Thomas W. Draper. Brigham Young University. Provo, Utah: BYU Studies and School of Family Life, 2012, pp. 290-299.

At the invitation of Dr. Alan Hawkins, I re-wrote the chapter on the sanctity of life for the second edition of the Family Proclamation textbook used in foundation courses for the School of Family Life. Using a philological approach, I explore questions such as What is Life? Why is Life Sacred? Why is Life Important in God’s Plan? and What is Abortion? I then provide suggestions for appropriate ways to uphold the sanctity of life. I also provide a table of General Authority responses to common beliefs about abortion.
