DESCRIBING PEOPLE



Teacher: Staci Sharp

This is a mini-lesson plan for vocabulary learning as a warm-up activity within a larger lesson.

Objectives:

  • Students will become familiar with most of and learn some of the vocabulary needed for the lesson task "Describing people."
  • Students will be warmed-up and ready for the main lesson.

Materials:

  • 18 vocabulary sheets
  • 1 vocabulary overhead
  • 8 Guess Who game boards
  • 18 Learning Journals
    (NOTE: only one page of the journal is included in this lesson plan)
  • 1 set of Guess Who game cards

Set-up:

  • Desks arranged in groups of two and three sharing one game board per group

Warm-up/Review:

  • Set up students for lesson task "Describing People"
    (ASK: When might we need to describe people?)

Presentation:

  • Handouts
  • Model pronunciation

Practice:

  • Guess Who Game
  • Stop: review pronunciation
  • Resume Guess Who Game

Evaluation:

  • Self Check (in pairs)
  • Record: Learning Journal (Students record their experience with "contextual use" vocabulary learning in their learning journals)

  • Assign: Listen for and use vocabulary during rest of class
