Editing Minor

Completing this new minor will demonstrate to potential employers that students have followed a well-thought-out curriculum in editing and publishing. They will learn marketable skills to help them find good jobs with book and journal publishers and with other corporations that need communication specialists.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Some students may use this training as preparation for careers in writing or for research and publishing in graduate school. And the editing skills taught will serve many students well in other pursuits, such as writing personal and family histories.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
The Editing minor will be challenging and rigorous: students will obtain both a theoretical base for editing and considerable training and practice in skills related to editing and publishing. Thus the minor will include three courses in the history and theory of the structure of English, three courses in editing skills (plus some introduction to other aspects of the publishing industry), and one course in related computer skills.

Required Courses (21 hours)

Under the new minor, the editing curriculum will be organized into a logical sequence of classes that will give students a better learning experience and a more orderly progression of knowledge and skills than they would get taking the courses in a haphazard sequence.

Suggested Sequence of Courses

  1. ELang 223 & CHum 283
  2. ELang 322 & ELang 325
  3. ELang 350 & ELang 410R
  4. ELang 430R
