Editing for Publication Class (ELang 430R
The HPC exists primarily as a lab for advanced editing students, where they can gain hands-on experience by helping to edit and publish real publications. By enrolling in sections of ELang 430R taught by the director of the Center, Mel Thorne, students can polish their editing skills by assisting with the publishing projects that are undertaken by the Center.
Members of the class get experience with the publishing process from end to end: editing manuscripts, source checking documents, proofreading manuscripts and layouts, and working with printers. And they get one-on-one feedback and mentoring to help them improve their skills.
Students admitted to 430R are typically expected to have completed prerequisite courses of English Language 322, 325, 330, 350 and 410R.
