Spencer: Attorney General’s Office, State of Utah

This internship will be nothing like what you expected. There are days when it is pretty tranquil and you just go to meetings and take notes or the world is crumbling around you and everyone’s hair is on fire because a bill got passed. The biggest thing in any internship is that hard work shows and the people in charge notice it. If you keep your head down and just go to work but voice an opinion when you feel passionate about something, the people around you will respect you. If you have an argument, make it, but make it after thinking it through fully and recognizing that not everyone shares the same opinion as you, especially on the hill. Another piece of advice is prepare to be told you’re wrong. It happens a lot and at first it might throw you, but stick to your opinions and it will all work out for the best.
