I. Linguistics Core (17 hours)

II. Language Core (12 hours)
Twelve credit-hours (to a 200-level or higher) of university-level course work (or the equivalent) in a single non-Germanic and non-Romance language. For a list of Germanic and Romance languages see http://linguistics.byu.edu/langlist.php. Students who are native speakers of or are minoring in a non-Germanic and non-Romance language (see III A below) may fill this requirement with any other foreign language by taking classes or by passing a special examination after taking a culminating culture class. Native speakers of non-Germanic and non-Romance languages may elect to use English to fill this requirement. If they choose to earn the credit by special examination, they must take English 230 or 232, Humanities 261 or 262, or an equivalent class as their culminating culture course. If they choose to earn the credit by taking classes, they must enroll in ESL 301, 302, 303, and 304.For a list of Germanic and Romance languages that cannot be used to satisfy this requirement can be accessed here
III. Electives
Students must complete either option A or option B, as specified below:
- An approved university minor in one of the following areas: Foreign Language (cannot be in language area used to fill II above), TESOL, Language and Computers, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Computers and the Humanities, or Editing.
