6 April 2005- Provo, Utah: The Linguistics & English Language Department Awards Dinner was held today in room 3220 of the Wilkinson Center. A delicious dinner including stuffed pork chops, mashed potatoes, and tasty summer squash with a scrumptious apple crisp for dessert was served. The entertainment was excellent with an amazing broom trick performed by officers of the Linguistics Society. They were followed by a mock meeting of the "North American English Association" courtesy of the English Language Society. Dr. Cynthia Hallen sang a lovely rendition of Pie Jesu with Dirk Elzinga accompanying on the piano. The Graduate Student Association then presented a sweet skit portraying Napolean Dynamite as a linguistics student. Finally, an experience never to be forgotten by the soon to be graduates of the department, the faculty serenaded the audience with the song, "O to finally graduate" (or something like that). Dr. Cynthia Hallen was especially impressive in her gusto for the song. It was a great evening with good food and good company. Sorry if you missed it. To see pictures from the evening click here.
