Taped conversation using contraction "’d" meaning "had" in the past perfect tense and with "better" or "would" as a modal or with "rather".

How many of you understood this conversation completely?

How many of you got confused, a little, with the meaning of the contraction "’d"? Several of you have come to me about this exact problem. After our grammar lessons on the past perfect tense, the modal auxiliary "would", and the idioms "had better" and "would rather".

The words "had" and " would" both use the contraction "’d".

Show the two primary words "had" and "would" and their usage. Discuss meanings, paying special attention to distinguishing each from the other by focusing on the word following the contraction.
