I am originally from Littleton, Colorado, but have lived here in Utah on and off for 15 years. I graduated from BYU in English, with an emphasis in English Language, before it was its own major in the Linguistics and English Language Department. I am married to Steve Spear, also BYU alum, and we have four children: three boys ages 23, 21 and 20, and one daughter age 16. I love to travel with my husband, write, manage three teenagers and get letters from our missionary son. I enjoy working in this department because of the topics of study we offer, and the staff and faculty, some of whom I knew when I was a student here.

I am from Los Angeles, California but I live here in Utah with my husband, Tyson. I graduated from BYU in English Language with editing and music minors; my language of study was American Sign Language. I participated in the English Language study abroad in Britain in 2009 and loved every minute. My husband and I love to swing dance, play games, cook, and attend the theater. I am thrilled to be working in this department with the amazing faculty and staff I came to love during my time as an undergraduate. My favorite topics of study in my major were varieties of English, structural ambiguity, and semantics.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but at the age of three my family moved to Texas and I’ve lived there ever since. In high school I was heavily involved in the band, playing the clarinet. When I graduated high school in 2005 I first attended the University of North Texas for one year before I transferred to BYU starting winter semester of 2007. I served a two-year mission to Argentina, Resistencia, and returned June of 2010. After returning home, I finally decided to pursue a Finance major from the Marriott School of Management.

I am from Provo Utah and have lived here my whole life. I have had many wonderful opportunities in my life, which has been due in no small part to my wonderful family and life circumstances. I enjoy reading, fishing, the outdoors, and music. Music has always been a central part of my life and I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old. In high school I enjoyed playing soccer and and singing in the A Capella Choir. I served a two-year mission in Norway and then returned home in July 2011. I look forward to continuing my education here at BYU, and it is a pleasure to be working in the Linguistics and English Language Department.
