Degree: Linguistics MA
Thesis topic: Applying the Developmental Path of English Negation to the Automated Scoring of English Learner Essays.
What have you done since graduation: Content Analyst at Verint. Among other responsibilities, I work to improve the intent recognition of the conversational AI we develop for enterprises.
Future goals/plans: With my foot firmly in the door in the computational linguistics/AI/tech industry, I hope to continue to develop my skills so that I may someday give back to the Kingdom of God in whatever way this knowledge may be of benefit.
Advice for future students: A career in the computational linguistics field is possible with your MA degree from BYU, if you so desire it. Regardless of whether you want it, nearly every job in the linguistics field now requires or highly favors some computational knowledge. Take the computational courses offered by the program!
