Tim Hall, Linguistics MA student, and Sarah Miner, TESOL MA student, have both received highly competitive research fellowships through BYU Graduate Studies.
Tim has received $15,000 for his research of second-language learning that he will be conducting in China. He will spend fall semester 2017 in Nanjing, China researching the language acquisition of BYU students participating in the Nanjing study abroad program. He will evaluate how students form relationships with local Chinese speakers and how these networks of friends impact their language improvement.
Sarah received $10,000 for her research and will be studying the way in which non-native speakers read and process idiomatic expressions. Congratulations, Sarah!
