- Read synthesize and be prepared to discuss in class the reading assignments.
- Participate in the four virtual classes.
- Develop two lesson plans; one for teaching an ESL/EFL reading class and another for teaching an ESL/EFL writing class.
- Write a publishable review of a text designed to teach ESL/EFL reading and/or writing.
- Observe an ESL reading and/or writing class and do five hours of observing/teaching during the semester and keep an observation/teaching log.
- Give two teaching demonstrations of appropriate activities for teaching reading and writing.
- Complete the midterm exam and the final exam based on course readings and exercises.
- Write a research paper on a topic of your choosing related to TESL reading or writing.
GRADING BASED ON:
- Participation and attendance (50 points total)
- Virtual class sessions (10 points each; 40 points total)
- Lesson plans (25 points each; 50 points total)
- Text reviews (25 points each; 50 points total)
- Observation/Teaching log (50 points total)
- Teaching demonstration (25 points each; 50 points total)
- Research paper (100 points total)
- Midterm exam (50 points total)
- Final exam (100 points total)
NOTES:
- Attendance is taken each class period. Attendance and participation are an essential part of the course.
- NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Work must be submitted at the beginning of class on the day it is due.
- Grading of the assignments is done on the following scales:
