Winter 2002: CHUM 387 - This course was again offered for those
Humanities students interested in learning to write speech-based applications.
Programming in Tcl/tk was taught as well as phonetic and acoustic knowledge
required to build speech applications using the CSLU Toolkit. Here
are descriptions of sample final programming projects.

May 7-11, 2001: Mike Emonts and Michael Rushforth presented a poster
display titled, "Interactive Language Learning in a Speech Environment"
at ICASSP 2001 in Salt Lake City.

March 23, 2001: Mike Emonts and Michael Rushforth presented "Improving
Speech Recognition for a Communicative CALL Task" at Deseret
Language and Linguistics Society 2001.

Winter 2001: CHUM 387 - Dr. Lonsdale and Dr. Graham taught a Speech
Interface Programming course. The course was designed for humanities
students interested in learning to write applications for speech-based
work. The course was divided into three main categories: phonetics/phonology,
TCL programming and development using the CSLU Toolkit. Here
are descriptions of sample final programming projects.

Sept. 28, 2000: CLS Colloquium - Dr. Graham presented pedagogical
implications of ASR and demonstrated our applications to humanities students.

Aug. 24, 2000: College Fair - Mike Emonts and Michael Rushforth
demonstrated the possibilities of speech recognition in language learning
by presenting applications developed using the CSLU Toolkit to professors
in the College of Humanities.
