Formal Listening Training in Listening Comprehension: The Effect of in an Intensive Language Program

This study is aimed at finding a method of training in aural comprehension suitable for incorporation into the existing language training program of the Language Training Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The major contributions of this study lie in the findings that for the particular groups used and the particular test employed for this experiment, no significant difference was found between treatment and no-treatment groups (level of significance was 0.6061). By analysis of variance it was also demonstrated that previous language experience was an aid to listening comprehension (sign. level 0.0259), and that a strong background in English grammar was an aid to listening comprehension (sign. level .0096 by t-test).
