  Provo Community School ESL

  Intensive ESL program for international students (no visitors allowed)
  Evening classes for adults (T W Th 7:00-9:30 p.m.) (Thursdays best)
  Location: Dixon Middle School, 750 W. 200 N., Provo
  Contact: Else Bauer, director. Note: There is no need to get permission beforehand. Just show up BEFORE 7:00 pm. Go in the north entrance by the big parking lot. The ESL office is in the first hallway. Check in there and identify yourself as a BYU observer. They will take you to the classes.

  Alpine School District Adult Education

  Intensive program in American Fork
  Evening classes at Mountain View High School in Orem
  Contact: Jim Hunter at 756-8568

  Utah Valley State College

  Intensive ESL program for international students
  Location: 800 W. 1200 S., Orem (at the end of University Parkway)

  Snow College

  A pre-admission, intensive language and culture program for international students.
  Location: 150 College Ave., Ephraim, Utah

  Salt Lake Community College

  An open entry/exit program for adults. Four levels.
  Location: 4600 South Redwood Road, Salt Lake City
  Contact: Dean Huber, coordinator, at 801-461-3245

  China: Beijing Normal University (graduate-level English classes), Gong An Daxue (police academy), secondary school English classes, etc.
  Japan: Himeji High School English classes
  Hong Kong: Ying Wa Girls School English class
  Pennsylvania State University: Adult education, beginning level ESL
  Salt Lake Community High School ESL class for immigrants
  Vancouver, B.C.: ESL class for Chinese senior citizens

  1. Franklin Elementary School

  • Ms. Entley expressed an interest in having volunteers help out.

  2. Provost Elementary School
  

  • to schedule obseverations call Susan Roberts @ 374-4960.

  3. Rock Canyon Elementary School
  

  • classes last about 30 minutes.

  • Ms. Sheen also expressed interest in having volunteer tutors.
    
  • According to some of the teachers at the other schools, Ms. Sheen is one of the more experienced teachers.

  4. Sunset View Elementary School

  5. Wasatch Elementary School

  • Ms Kendell is in charge of the ESL program for Provo District and, according to the teachers at the other schools, has been teaching elementary ESL longer than any of the other teachers.

  6. Grandview Elementary School

  7. Westridge Elementary School

  8. Provo High School
  

  • various ESL and sheltered English courses are offered.
    
  • most courses are taught in the morning (7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.).
    
  • to schedule observations call Sherri Sellers @ 373-6550 extension 279.
    
  • Mrs. Sellers expressed an interest in having volunteers help out.
