- Read synthesize and be prepared to discuss in class the reading assignments.
- Participate in three virtual class sessions.
- Develop a lesson plan on particular grammatical structures, one for beginning level learners and one for intermediate level learners.
- Write a publishable review of a text designed to teach ESL/EFL grammar.
- Complete five hours of observing/teaching an ESL grammar class during the semester and keep an observation/teaching log.
- Complete two midterm exams and the final exam based on course readings and exercises.
- Write a position paper on your personal teaching philosophy related to the role of grammar instruction in the ESL/EFL classroom.
GRADING BASED ON:
- Participation and attendance (50 points total)
- Virtual Class sessions (10 points each; 30 points total)
- Lesson plan and teaching demo (50 points total)
- Text review (25 points total)
- Observation/Teaching log (50 points total)
- Position paper (100 points total)
- Midterm exams (50 points each; 100 points total)
- Final exam (100 points total)
NOTES:
- Attendance is taken each class period. Attendance and participation are an essential part of the course.
- NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Work must be submitted at the beginning of class on the day it is due.
- Grading of the assignments is done on the following scales:
