Course Requirements and Grading Scheme


Journal article report (two; one on reading and one on writing; each from a different journal; maximum one page each; see instructions and criteria on WWW) 4%
Designated Reader team reports, other assignments, quizzes, and class participation 15%
Teaching log and experience (five teaching experiences - see WWW for sample pages ) 10%
Materials evaluation reports (two)
Review of ESL/EFL reading textbook
Review of ESL/EFL writing textbook
Maximum three pages each, double-spaced; see criteria)
8%
Classroom Observation reports (two)
Reading class
Writing class
Maximum three pages each, double-spaced; see criteria and possible sites for these observations)
10%
Mid-term examination 13%
Final examination 20%
Term paper (involves original, data-based research; use APA style) 20%

Extra credit may be earned for attending professional meetings or conference sessions dealing with aspects of ESL reading and writing; submitting for publication reviews of books about ESL reading and/or writing; submitting abstracts for presentations about ESL reading and/or writing at professional conferences. You must have these activities approved beforehand and then turn in a written copy or report.
